Shimmering abalone is accentuated with gold beads in this lovely golden piece. Abalone is a large mollusk. It’s thick shell is composed of nacre, giving it an iridescent sheen. It goes by many names, including paua, ear shell, and muttonfish. The shell’s color reflects what it eats, and ranges from silvery-white, pink, red and green-red. Wrapped in 14 karat gold filled wire. 14 karat gold fill wire is durable, containing about 100 times more gold than gold plate. It is considered to be heirloom quality.
